EdChoice Expansion calculator for suburban Cleveland families

Enter household size and income to estimate a 2026-27 award with the formula from DEW's own workbook. City families use the Cleveland Scholarship instead.

Your income vs the poverty line—
Each K-8 student—
Each 9-12 student—
Estimated household total—
Tuition remaining after the award—

A planning estimate, not an award letter. Poverty line used: $15,960 for a household of one, $5,680 more per added member (2026 guideline). Taper: DEW's FY27 Expansion workbook. Families verified at 200% of poverty or below owe no tuition beyond the award.

How much EdChoice Expansion will a suburban Cleveland family receive in 2026-27?

Put in how many people live in your household and the AGI from line 11 of your most recent 1040. Until income passes 450% of the 2026 poverty line, a suburban child receives the full $6,166 for K-8 or $8,408 for 9-12. Above that, the calculator applies DEW's 2026-2027 workbook formula, which halves the award with each further 100 percentage points and never goes below a tenth of the maximum.

Should a family inside the Cleveland district use this calculator?

No. City families use the Cleveland Scholarship, which has no income-based reduction, so the award is simply the maximum or the school's tuition, whichever is lower.

Will DEW award exactly what the calculator shows?

Treat it as a planning number. The state checks your income itself, cuts awards for requests filed after October 14, 2026 to match the months remaining, and never pays more than the school charges in tuition.

Rather have a person run it?

A counselor checks your numbers, your assigned building and your address against the district line, then adds the aid the calculator can't see.
