Christian schools in Northeast Ohio and how families pay for them

Greater Cleveland's Christian schools range from large Medina and Lake County campuses to small church academies that chose not to seek a state charter. That one choice decides whether a voucher can be used.

Can the Cleveland Scholarship or EdChoice be used at Christian schools here?

At chartered ones, yes. Of 36 Christian schools we list, 28 hold an Ohio charter, and 2 appear on DEW's 2026-27 non-chartered list, where vouchers are not used.

Why do some Cleveland-area church schools stay non-chartered?

Ohio allows a school with truly held religious beliefs against chartering to operate as a nonchartered nonpublic school. It reports to DEW each year between July 1 and September 30, gives up state transportation and auxiliary services, and does not enroll voucher students. DEW's 2026-27 list shows 37 such schools in the five counties, many of them home-based academies.

What other help do Christian school families use?

Member and sibling pricing, the school's own aid and SGOs such as the Lutheran Scholarship Granting Organization of Ohio and the Hearthside Christian Scholarship Fund in Brunswick.
