Birchwood School of Hawken (Cleveland): Voucher Status & Funding

About these records. Each school combines the federal Private School Survey (NCES 2023-24, or 2021-22 where a school skipped the latest round) with Ohio's state school directory (OEDS) and DEW's 2026-27 list of non-chartered schools, both pulled October 28, 2026. "Chartered" means OEDS lists the school as a chartered nonpublic school, the only kind that can take Cleveland Scholarship or EdChoice students; schools also register each year as providers, so confirm with the school. Neither agency collects tuition.

Can a voucher be used at Birchwood School of Hawken?

$6,166

2026-27 Cleveland Scholarship or EdChoice maximum, grades K-8

Yes, if the school is taking scholarship students this year. Ohio's state school directory (OEDS) lists Birchwood School of Hawken (IRN 097683) as a chartered nonpublic school. Because it sits in the city, many families here live inside the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and use the Cleveland Scholarship, which has no income test; families commuting in from the suburbs use EdChoice or EdChoice Expansion instead. Either way the 2026-27 maximum is $6,166 for grades K-8, paid to the school toward tuition.

Independent schools set their own need-based aid, and the larger ones budget for it heavily. A chartered independent school takes vouchers on the same terms as a religious school.
